FINNISH DISCUSSION GROUPS
Papupata
The group is open for everyone who is interested and manages the basics of Finnish language. The aim is to offer a free-form and relaxed opportunity to use the Finnish language in different ways, especially by speaking, because language courses do not always have enough opportunities for that. The instructors are Red Cross volunteers. No registration required, join at any time. For more information email papupata.kerho@gmail.com |
Saturday conversation
The group is open for everyone who is interested and knows the basics of Finnish language. The group is led by Familia's volunteer Outi Heikkilä. For more information, please contact nora.dadi@familiary.fi |
Kitchen club
The idea of Kitchen Club is cooking together and speaking Finnish in a relaxed atmosphere. It's a fun activity, that includes light Finnish speaking, short talk about food and nutrition, home gardening and environmental protection, household economics and consumer issues. In the end of the event cooked food is eaten together. In Kitchen Club we get to know Finnish dishes and food culture as well as cuisines all the round the world.
Fall 2022 Kitchen Club happens on four Fridays at 10.00-14.00: 30.9., 28.10., 25.11. and 16.12. Kitchen Club takes place in Ruoholahti/Jätkäsaari, at Swedish Martha’s premises. Because there are limited places in this activity, pre-registration is mandatory. |
WHO CAN TAKE PART in FAMILIA'S FINNISH LANGUAGE COURSES?
Familia's Finnish language courses are primarily aimed at Finnish spouses who want to learn and develop their Finnish language skills under the guidance of professional teachers. The courses take into account the opportunities offered by the Finnish-speaking spouse and close circle to support the study of the Finnish language. The teaching also takes into account the student's everyday language use needs and interactions.
Spouses who speak Finnish as their mother tongue are expected to play an active role and be motivated, for example, by participating in homework and meetings in addition to the course. Aside from learning the language, both the student and the Finnish spouse receives peer support and can network with others who are in the same life situation. Familia's course offerings are the only Finnish language courses that take into account the everyday life of multicultural families in terms of content and teaching atmosphere. |
HOW MUCH DOES THE COURSE COST?
Participation in the Finnish language courses requires membership in the Familia association.
The membership fee is 25 euro per calendar year. Finnish discussion groups do not require membership. The price of summer intensive courses is 250 € / 225 € (membership price).
