- The training is in English, but you can ask questions in Finnish.
Welcome to Familia's general volunteer training for new volunteers! In the training you will get to know Familia, meet other volunteers and get all the needed information and skills to facilitate activities. The training is in two parts: the first part is the common part taking place on a Saturday and the second part which will take place after the general training.
Duo Mother & BaBy and Duo Toddlers group facilitator orientation day
Would you like to make friends with other mothers and babies of intercultural families? Would you like to do something meaningful during your maternity leave and acquire valuable experience and skills? Become a Duo Mother & Baby group facilitator and start your own group with a volunteer pair next autumn! Previous experience of facilitating a group is not needed: all you need is enthusiasm, motivation and a little of your time. You can participate during pregnancy or bring your under 1-year old baby to the training. A light lunch will be served during the training. As a volunteer Duo Mother & Baby group facilitator you will be provided with a compact introduction and facilitator's manual as well as help with the practical arrangements and advertising. Each group gets a small budget to purchase coffee, tea, juice and snacks for the meetings. In addition to taking part in a meaningful activity, you will receive a certificate for your participation and training. Each groups has eight weekly meetings (16 hours in total). The volunteer group facilitators (and their babies) are full and equal group members. However, as a volunteer group facilitator, you and your facilitator pair would help setting up the meeting room and preparing coffee/tea and snacks in time for the meeting (this takes 20-30 minutes) as well as coordinating the tidying up afterwards. You and your pair would also plan some activities / themes for each meeting. Other than that, you and your baby would simply enjoy the meetings and company of other mothers and babies. At a later date |

VOLUNTEERING and volunteering possibilities AT FAMILIA
In Familia's peer support activities, volunteers can share their experiences and support their peers. At Familia we have peer support activities, for example, for the parents of intercultural families, mothers with babies under one year old and toddlers, fathers, job-seekers and intercultural couples waiting for their residence permit or looking for jobs. Our peer support groups are meant for people who have an intercultural family.
To become a volunteer, you don't always necessarily need to be in an intercultural family yourself, but you need to have a personal and/or professional experience of the participants' life situation. |
Duo Mother & baby groupsDuo Mother & Baby groups are cosy and confidential meeting places for the mothers and babies/toddlers of intercultural families. All mothers - both Finnish-born and foreign-born - are welcome to take part in the groups. If you are a mother of an intercultural family and you want to do something meaningful meeting other mothers and babies/toddlers, this is your chance!
Ask for more information from Hanna Kinnunen or sign up online |
Duo Separation groupsDuo Separation Support Groups are safe spaces for those who have experienced ( or are at the moment going through) intercultural divorce/separation to meet peers, share experiences and learn from others. In these groups the focus is on sharing experiences, challenges, wins and solutions with others and supporting each other.
Meetings are facilitated by trained volunteers who have also experienced intercultural divorce. Themes of the groups are, for example, coping with divorce, parenting after divorce and rebuilding your life. Ask for more information from Hanna Kinnunen |
CLUBS AND WORKSHOPS
Clubs and workshops are activities where everyone is welcome to participate as they are. The activities are mainly led and created by volunteers.
If you have your own idea, let us know about it and let's build your own activity together! Examples of activities:

WHO CAN VOLUNTEER AT FAMILIA?
If you want to contribute to supporting intercultural families of Finland, you are welcome to be a volunteer at Familia! Our peer activities require that you are familiar, through personal or professional experience, with the participants’ situations. We value the knowledge and skills of ordinary people - you don’t have to be an expert to volunteer with us!
Our groups and activities are mainly in English and Finnish, but we strongly encourage you to let us know if you would like to lead an activity in another language! Our volunteering is flexible and we take into consideration your life situation by offering different lengths of volunteer assignments that don’t necessarily require a long commitment. We also offer volunteer assignments online, so you can participate in volunteer activities from anywhere in Finland. Familia stands against discrimination and welcomes you as a volunteer regardless of your gender, sexual orientation, age, education level, political orientation, religion, language skills, country of origin or disabilities. |
