Video project 2024: Finnishness 2.0
Who is Finnish and who is not? Who, if anyone, has the right to define the cultural identity of others?
In this video, mixed young people and adults share their stories, tell their own experiences and views, and how they would like to see Finnish society and Finnishness defined in the future. This Video is in Finnish.
You can watch it here. Enjoy!
Triggerwarning: This video also deals with experiences of racism and discrimination, which may evoke challenging emotions in viewers who have experienced similar situations and feelings.
Additional information:
The filming and editing were handled by project manager Amrita, who previously had very little experience with this type of project. But the content turned out to be really varied, open, and thought-provoking. It gets you thinking about how we define being Finnish in our society and what it means when people make assumptions about others based on their culture or ethnicity without knowing their background

STORIES OF INTERCULTURAL YOUTH
|
INTERCULTURAL FAMILIES LIVING IN FINLAND HAVE ROOTS IN TWO OR MORE CULTURES. HOWEVER, THESE CULTURES CANNOT BE EVENLY DIVIDED INTO TWO WHEN LOOKING AT ONE'S OWN CULTURAL IDENTITY. EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR PARENTS' HOMELAND, LANGUAGE AND CULTURE. AND EVERYONE IS MAKING THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES. |
