Familia has implemented various projects over the years, whose main purpose is to support intercultural families and couples at different stages of life.
These projects last from 2 to 4 years and the main funding for the projects is provided by STEA (The Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations) |

2018-2021 SIDE BY SIDE (I STAND BY YOU)

The aim of the project was to support the wellbeing of intercultural families and couples, where one of the spouses is an asylum seeker or is waiting for his/her residence permit on other grounds. The two-year project was funded by STEA.

2017–2020 PARTNER'S PATH - EMPLOYMENT, INTEGRATION, AND WELL-BEING
|
Partner's Path - Peer Support for the Immigrant Partners of Intercultural Families on the Path to Employments was a project improving the employability, integration and well-being of immigrants who have moved to Finland as partners of Finns. The project took into account the role of the Finnish partner supporting job hunting and integration of the foreign-born partner, and organised activities for intercultural couples to take part in either individually or as a couple . The project was funded by STEA (former RAY).

2013–2016 DUO - ADVOCATING PEER ACTIVITIES FOR INTERCULTURAL FAMILIES THROUGHOUT FINLAND

The four-year project entitled ‘Duo – advocating peer activities for intercultural families throughout Finland’ was managed by the Familia and funded by RAY.
The target group for Duo comprised of intercultural families in Finland, the number of which has tripled over the past two decades and which are a permanent part of Finnish society. The purpose of Duo was to provide peer-based activities, family training and counselling services for intercultural families throughout Finland. |
The articles, blog posts, reports and research papers written during the Duo Project can be found from Familia Library and Familia Blog into which more material is still added regularly. From 2017 onwards, all activities intended for intercultural families have been included as part of Familia’s overall activities. |
2008–2012 DUO – INTERCULTURAL FAMILIES AS A RESOURCE FOR THE FUTURE

‘Duo - intercultural families as a resource for the future’ was a five-year project undertaken by the Familia association. The target group for the project included all intercultural couples and families residing in Finland. The project developed various forms of activities based on voluntary involvement and peer support, as well as a supplementary family training model for intercultural families. The project was funded by RAY.

The Duo activities included Duo Mother & Baby groups, Duo Family Training and volunteer activities. |
2008–2010 MONIHELI
|
The purpose of the Moniheli project was to create, within the Helsinki metropolitan area, a collaborative network between associations working with immigrants and multicultural issues. The aim was to improve the co-operation and operational foundations of these organisations, while also boosting their individual activities. The project was funded by RAY.

The result of the project was the foundation of the Network of Multicultural Associations Moniheli ry in spring 2010. Today, Moniheli is a nationwide collaborative network providing guidance, training and support for its more than 75 member organisations. |
